“On-Air Project”- photography by Atta Kim
Atta Kim, a South Korean photographer, uses long exposures–sometimes as long as 24 hours–to create images that “explore fundamental questions of time and perception, presence and absence.” This particular photograph makes me ponder upon the fact that every person and object in existence will ultimately disappear. It conveys a strong sense of void because it looks awkward to see the Time Square so deserted and inactive.
It’s a very cool piece of art. I heard it was recently sold at about $200,000 at an auction. It’s interesting how many people feel, share, or understand the insignificance of human and matters against time, and value the photograph.
